Openwater Swim for Experienced Swimmers Only

Swim Route subject to Strong Tidal Currents!

Wetsuits Permitted but not compulsory - No Class Differentiation

WHAT:  ~1900m Openwater Swim

WHERE: From the island of Ireland's Eye to the mainland beach just east of Howth harbour


WHEN: Sunday 24th June 2018 at 9.00am -This is race start time

Race sign-on from 7.00 to 8.00am at Howth Scout Hall

Boats to island leave from Howth from 7.50 to 8.30am



Entry includes boat transfer from Howth Harbour to Ireland's Eye for start of swim, tech tee, swim bag, latex swim hat and entry system provider's commission, etc


There will be strictly limited numbers for this event due to the necessity to transport participants to the island and to ensure adequate safety cover is available for all participants

This "Escape From Ireland" event take place in tidal waters with strong currents.
It is a challenging swim and should only be attempted by those experienced and confident in their ability to complete it without assistance!
The fastest swimmer is expected to take 30 minutes and you should be confident of completing this section comfortably in under an hour. It is highly recommended that athletes will have completed a swim of this length in similar openwater conditions and temperatures in the month preceeding this event.

If in any doubt about your swimming ability please do not enter this event!

Should you be unable to make the event we offer a free transfer poilcy once the request is sent by the original entrant to by 10am on Thursday 21st June 2018 - No Transfers possible after this time 


Race Prize Presentation in Scout Hall at ~10.30am

Our event is kindly supported by Beshoff Bros (Dublin's #1 Fish & Chips) & Howth Golf & Footgolf who own Ireland's Eye Island



Race sign-on takes place at the Scout Hall (This is on the left just after the Dart Station and before the harbour as you enter Howth village) between and 8am to allow transfer of participants to the island from 7.50 to 8.30 in time for the start

Key drop is at registration area in scout hall

We will transport your outer clothing/ sandals / flipflops etc back from the island in a drawstring bag that we will provide.

This bag will be available at the beach at the finish so you can cover up and cheer others as they finish

Drinks and some food will be provided after event completion

Very basic changing and toilet facilities will be at Race Sign-On Area in the Scout Hall

There will be NO Registration on the Day

Note: Wetsuits are recommended but not compulsory - there will be no differentiation of classes based on wetsuit or not.

The "Escape From Ireland Swim" event is for experienced and competent openwater swimmers only

You will be asked to confirm when entering that you are confident in your experience, abilities and training to safely complete this event.

Please do not put your or other's safety at risk by attempting this event if you are unsure of your ability to safely do so!

It is our aim as organisers to keep the Howth Challenge Series events as a fun and friendly with some spot prizes to be given to non-prizewinners.

In addition to some spot prizes we will have commissioned potter prizes for the first 3 men and women and first 40+  outside the top 3 in each gender

No differentiation in rankings between wetsuit clad and not for prizes cool
